Creativity has been a part of Ashini since she was young. She loves painting, sculpting and sawing. Ashini’s parents were teachers and she grew up with a creative background where her mother conducted craft classes and her father designed wedding invitation cards. Ashini also won lots of island wide and international art contests.

She graduated as a Graphic Designer by trade and previously worked as a textile print designer and a freelance children's story book illustrator back in Sri Lanka. Ashini and her husband migrated to Australia in 2012 and she started working full time for Australian Community media, formerly known as Fairfax Media/ Nine News. 

Ashini made a few birthday cakes for her friend’s children a few times and found that she really enjoyed it. She then started getting requests from the public and that's how Ashini was slowly thrown into cake decorating. Cherry On Top Cakes has been her part time business since 2018.
